EFCC Arraigns Police Officer, 14 Others For Oil Theft

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday arraigned an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Dodo Bulus, before Justice E.S Chukwu of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja on two

counts of oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

The accused person and 14 others were alleged to have conspired amongst themselves to break crude oil pipeline and siphon petroleum products.

The others are Joseph Amaechi, Israel Friday, Ubadia Francis, Abayomi Adebisi, Abdullahi Idris, Samuel Job, Onah Ode, Sabo Hassan, Abdullahi Moh’d, Abubakar Abdulkadir, Ehiogu Paul, Ibrahim Saidu, Garba Mohammed and Bartholomew Onyema.

They were alleged to have committed the offence in March, 2013 at Kilometre 82 Piri Village along Abaji-Lokoja Road, Abuja.

A statement by the Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Wilson Uwajaren in Abuja, stated that after Bulus had taken his plea, counsel for the EFCC, Elizabeth Ayodele, asked the court to fix a date for trial and asked that the accused be remanded in custody.

The defence counsel, Alex Akunebu, however prayed the court to admit his client to bail, arguing that the essence of bail was to ensure that the accused person is available for trial.
