Nigeria Won't Break, Bishop Oyedepo Predicts

The Chancellor of Covenant University, Bishop David Oyedepo, has called on Nigerians to join in the task of building a united country, predicting that it will not break.

Bishop Oyedepo made the call Monday when he paid a courtesy visit to Akwa Ibom State governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, at the Governor's Office, Uyo, saying, "I think Nigeria is advanced enough to be able to put things together to help the masses get educated depth of enlightenment, see hope on their future and see opportunities in this nation."

According to him, "once again, we are all Nigerians, this is our nation. We have no other nation. Let's help to build and not be part of those who want to break it. We will build this nation and it shall not break.

"A lot of us have opportunity to leave outside this country forever, but because of our parents and relations, we can't go anywhere. God forbid there is any war in Nigeria. There are some that don't know anywhere. They don't have understanding of how to get to anywhere and yet they are citizens of our nation," he remarked.

Oyedepo, who is also the General Overseer of Living Faith Church, Winners Chapel, urged the media to foster unity, noting that "I believe the media have a lot to do in helping to show the way forward."

A lot of our young men are lost in Europe, America and China just because there is not enough information going out there to show them they can make things happen here. I want to admonish that you help people to see their future.

He expressed the hope that the media would rise to its responsibilities by educating the masses on "the unlimited opportunities available to us in our nation and help to motivate them to become contributors while they engage in constructive journalism and help to see people find their footings in our great nation".

Expressing hope that there is a great future with the current development in the State, the man of God declared "I am impressed today. I was here some years ago. I came here through the airport I have seen the roads and everything, I believe there is a great future".

Governor Akpabio commended Bishop Oyedepo for his humility and for the exploits God has used him to wrought, noting "We thank you for your humility. We will like to have a strong relationship with you.

"There is something that could interest you and that is the aspect of the fact that we start the year with God in Akwa Ibom by doing a major inter-denominational service every year in January. We have done that consistently for over six years and when we do so I know that the blessings of God are always upon the State", Akpabio recalled.

The Governor who invited the Bishop to the 2013 Akwa Ibom Christmas Carol Night observed "In between, we also have a lot of thanksgiving services and we have the State creation day in September, where we also presented the State to God in a solemn assembly. We also end the year with God.

In December, we chose a day and we have a major choral festival for God. We had the privilege of having Pastor Kumuyi, who presided over the assembly in 2011 and Pastor Enoch Adeboye in 2012. There is no way a State like ours that is named after God will not like to identify with a Man God of your status".
