Celine Dion’s Death Rumour Spreads Like Wild Fire

Multi-grammy award pop star, Celine Dion will not forget November 9 in a hurry after fake stories about the singer's death began circulating on Facebook through an app that uses logos from well-known news outlets to entice users.

One of the reports says the singer died in a car crash, while another claimed she met her death when her plane crashed.

The Facebook posts claim to be from CNN and Fox News, saying "R.I.P. Celine Dion 1968 – 2013?" as well as "Her heart will go on? Celine Dion died in a car accident," according to ContactMusic.

"Hollywood Breaking News – R.I.P Celine Dion At about 11 a.m. ET on Sunday (October 20, 2013), Celine Dion died in a plane crash. The culprit for the story is Global Associated, aka Mediafetcher. 'Celine Dion presumed dead in private plane crash', Global claims that Celine died today at 'Denver Peak-Regional Airport," reads part of the false CNN piece.

On Twitter, there have still been people tweeting and retweeting "RIP Celine Dion" or questioning the singer's death.

A shaken and upset Celine Dion, on hearing of her death hoax tale, remarked: "Sometimes it's freaky because I have to call my family about it. I was celebrating the birthday of my twins in Montreal and I was getting these phone calls saying there was stuff on Facebook that I was dead."

The App was hoping to regenerate the wrongful reports for its own use. Other A-List celebrities who have become victims of fake death hoaxes are Justin Bieber, Eddie Murphy, Kanye West, Britney Spears and Morgan Freeman. Celine Dion is alive and well.

Over the weekend, Dion told USA Today that she is doing a new album because "I have nothing to lose. I'm just singing songs because I love them."

"I don't have to do anything I don't want to do," she said. "I'm in the greatest place. I'm 45 and in the middle of my life. I'm cruising. All the decisions I'm making are coming from a grounded place."

Dion is slated to release "Loved Me Back To Life" on Tuesday.
