THE city of Sydney shone with one of the city's most spectacular fireworks displays to welcome in 2014.
Exploding fireworks sprayed from Sydney's iconic opera house and harbour bridge at midnight Tuesday as the world began ushering in a new year.
The Opera House took centre stage to mark its 40th birthday, with fireworks shooting from its world-famous sails for the first time in over a decade.
Watched by 1.1 billion people around the globe, Sydney pulled out all the stops to celebrate the start of 2014 and farewell 2013.
