UN Sensitises Ivoirians On Security Reform

The United Nations Operation in Cote d’Ivoire (UNOCI) has called on civil society groups and opinion leaders to make inputs that will ensure a successful reform of the security sector
in the country.

This is contained in the UN mission’s weekly news bulletin released in Abidjan Monday.

The bulletin said the mission spokesman Syvie Wildenberg made the call during a workshop on the planned reform of the Ivorian security sector in Abidjan.

She said the workshop was to enlighten the civil society and opinion leaders on the security sector reform.

“It is to enable us as stakeholders to know our roles in the process, and do our part by making meaningful inputs that will ensure a successful reform,’’ the News Agency of Nigeria quoted Wildenberg as saying in the bulletin.

Also speaking at the workshop, Mireille Tanoh, Head, Communications Unit, National Security Council, said the planned reform of the security sector required the collective commitment of stakeholders.

“Our mission is to explain the reform and to build a partnership with civil society and local authorities for the effective implementation of this process.

“The reform is to ensure better security service delivery, so our inputs will enable us to undertake a reform that will provide the needed service,’’ she said.
