PDP Urges Mimiko To Name Varsity After Late Agagu

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State has urged Governor Olusegun Mimiko to immortalise his predecessor, Olusegun Agagu.
The party’s Chairman, Chief Solomon Bitire, urged the state government to name the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH), Okitipupa, and some roads after him.

Bitire said in Okitipupa on Tuesday that Agagu was able to give the state a face-lift when he was alive.

Mr. Agagu, 65, slumped and died on September 13th at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos.

Bitire said that the Okitipupa-Igbokoda and Igbonla-Olokola roads should be named after Agagu as part of initiatives to appreciate his contributions to the development of the state.

The chairman also suggested that the Owena dam and the state stadium in Akure should be named after the late governor.

“Agagu was a blessing to us in Ondo state and the South-West at large.”

“He made the state what it is today because of his mission and vision,’’ Bitire said.

The PDP chairman said that the party had set up a 15-man burial committee to ensure a befitting burial for Agagu.

Bitire said that the PDP members in all the local government would converge in Akure on Oct.3 to honour the late chieftain.

He, however, said that the late governor’s burial would not be politicised, adding that his burial was more than a party affair.

“We will also collaborate with other political parties to give him a befitting burial,’’ Bitire said.

Agagu’s burial service and interment would hold on October 4th at St. Paul’s Anglican Church while the reception would hold at Manuwa Memorial Grammar School, all in Iju Odo.
