We are Capable of Winning the World Cup - Oboabona
Super Eagles defensive stalwart, Godfrey Oboabona has said that, Nigeria should not only qualify for the 2014 World Cup but to go to Brazil and make a good impression.
Oboabona who helped the Super Eagles to a 4-1 victory over the Elephants of Ivory Coast in Kaduna on Saturday said it was unfortunate that Coach Stephen Keshi-led team crashed out of the Confederations Cup after the first round of matches played.
"It was just unfortunate we could not progress beyond the first round. We played very well but we failed because we could not convert our chances.
If we qualify for the World Cup and are able to put up 30%of what we played at the Confederation Cup, we can win the World Cup," Oboabona said.
He insisted that if there was another chance of meeting Spain again, the result will be different.
" We played Spain to a standstill at the tournament. Should they cross our path again, I doubt if they can beat us."
On African Nations Championship for home-based national teams, CHAN, the Sunshine Stars defender acknowledged that Ivory Coast would want to prove stubborn in the second leg but was sure, the Eagles will progress to the championship proper.
"We know they are still nursing the hope of stopping us from going to South Africa. We will not allow them get into our goal area. We have a good chance of qualifying Nigeria for CHAN for the first time because we want to break the jinx and be in South Africa come January 2014."
